Best Answer: Impossible in javascript because javascript is local to your computer. To make sure you can see each others moves, you need a web server script which takes your moves and presents them on your web site.
So you make your move, and your HTML/JS sends form data to your server script. The script records this move and sends back a web page containing updated display. At this point, if the other player refreshes his screen, they will see the same web page as you. Alternatively you can send back a page that automatically refreshes using metarefresh or javascript timer. If you just use javascript, the results are only visible on your computer - there must be a central point that both of you can look at and the only way is a server web page.
So you need to write a server script, I'm afraid. S comment is mostly true, there is hope for your javascript. It is true that you will need a script on the server to keep track of the players actions, turns, etc. However, I would recommend that this script output XML. You can then expand your javascript to read (parse) the XML to get specific information about the other players last move, and the overall status of things. It works like this: Player 1 makes a move, it is sent to the server, the XML document is changed. Meanwhile, the javascript in Player 2's browser is looking for a change in XML file.
When XML file says 'now it's your turn' it updates his page (maybe showing the outcome of Player 1's last move) and it will allow him to make a move. The roles have changed for Player 1, his browser is now waiting for a change in the XML file telling him it is his turn. Note: the 'XML file' may be an actual text file on the server or it would mostlikely be a dynamically generated file where a script pulls info out of a database and formats it as XML. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
